Here is a link to a recent expert consensus statement on these birth tissue products that are being sold to doctors as patients as “stem cell” products. They are not. It is a scam. Over 20 medical doctors, PhDs, and researchers from major USA universities and practices have all signed on to a consensus statement that these products do NOT contain living stem cells.
I have been repairing virtually all meniscus injuries and adding an orthobiologic injection to maximize healing. This combination of surgery + stem cells has been shown to result in better healing rates of the meniscus and allows me to “save” more meniscus tears for patients than I could before. The video is a 60 sec clip showing how we can repair a bad meniscal injury a young patient and get it to heal about 90% of the time by adding a stem cell injection.

I just finished lecturing at a great inaugural meeting focused on sports medicine and nutrition and wellness. The ASPIRE meeting was chaired by Vonda Wright, MD and Mark Sakr, DO. Treating the whole patient is critical for success! Orthobiologics like PRP and stem cells are just two tools in the hands of an orthopedic physician to help patients maintain their health. I spoke about how and why an orthopedic surgeon would use orthobiologics like PRP and bone marrow concentrate (stem cells). The audience questions and panel discussions at these meetings are always so enlightening and allow me to learn as much as I teach!
Stem Cell Clinics telling patients that they are delivering placental stem cells or umbilical cord stem cells are scams whether they are run by chiropractors or any other clinician. All should be sued for fraud. All should be investigated by their state medical or chiropractor boards for fraudulent advertising.
One of the most important steps in evaluating patients prior to making treatment recommendations is to use some form of imaging to see what the problem is. Along with a thorough history and physical exam, and special tests like blood work or neurologic tests, imaging adds another bit of information to help diagnose the source of the problem. One of my favorite imaging tools is this unique Trice Medical Mi-Ultra tablet. It looks like a tablet but it actually combines an ultrasound machine AND and a disposable in office diagnostic arthroscope! It is the only tablet that allows me to see both inside and outside the joint.
Our patient has now had 2 good years with minimal knee pain after being told she needed a total knee replacement! All from a single injection of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) made from her own blood in the office. She now wants the other knee done :). Who wouldn’t!
I just gave this lecture at the 2019 Interventional Orthopedics Foundation Annual Meeting. At the Dallas PRP and Stem Cell Institute we only use your own bone marrow as the source for stem cell procedures. Anything out of a bottle is either not legal or a scam so avoid those providers at all costs.
