Great to see Kristy Weber, MD, President of AAOS (American Academy Of Orthopedic Surgeons) advertise for Academy evidence based orthobiologic lectures at the upcoming Annual Meeting. Drs. Dragoo and Halbrecht and Feeley have lectures that should at least promote interest amongst the 30,000 orthopedic surgeons in the USA.

The HYP study is our first clinical study in 2020 and is approved and enrolling patients!
We are trying to help patients with knee pain, stiffness, and weakness from degenerative joint disease (arthritis).
Our study is evaluating two different treatment injection options to see which one gives patients better pain relief.
Expect to see 20 all star faculty, 75 participants, 35 models, 35 ultrasound machines, 8 hours of hands on scanning with live models.
Another study in the American Journal Of Sports Medicine showing that bone marrow derived stem cells can have a role in cartilage repair. This was a well powered level 2 study with 10 year follow up. Results showed equivalence between autologous BMC and 1st gen ACI.
Please don’t spend $400 on “Stem Cell Pain Cream” that is supposedly FDA certified.

I had a great time playing in a charity baseball game at historic Reverchon Baseball Park in Dallas yesterday. I was on a team with lots of old pro and college baseball playing friends. We played against a team sponsored by the Warstic Bat Co. ….owned by Ben Jenkins, Ian Kinsler (baseball player) and Jack White (musician) There were around 200-300 in attendance and it was great to play without worrying about the score or personal results. I was 2-3 with 4 putouts and no errors.
Using orthobiologics like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cells (bone marrow derived) in orthopedics requires more than just surgical and nonsurgical training and technical skills. A doctor and clinic should be able to quantify the doses of these biologic drugs being given….otherwise we have no idea what we are giving to a patient! The picture shows our in house lab with 5 different centrifuges in house (yes 5!) and a hematology analyzer to quantify whole blood and PRP (and study bone marrow aspirate and bone marrow concentrate). We also have a cell counter to quantify bone marrow aspirate and bone marrow concentrate. We also have a biologic laminar flow cabinet. Our results go into each patient’s chart with every procedure and into our orthobiologic online registry with every procedure also! Know your doc and your clinic!
