At Texas Orthobiologics (in Dallas and Frisco) we always bring the best high dose Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) system to our patients. Recently, we have been testing several established single spin and two spin PRP kits as well as some new players to the field. The results have been enlightening...more on that later. One early note....even on the same blood tested on a hematology machine properly cleaned and validated, the platelet count can vary 10%. Just one reason to make sure your PRP doctor can test the dose you are getting every time! In one of our test runs today we were looking at two manual techniques with two different anti-coagulants (ACD-A and NA citrate) and a new PRP kit about to be on the market. I think that calculating a protocol's cost ($) per Billion platelets is a way to compare across single and double spin systems to really see the differences. No orthopedic surgeons were hurt in the making of this post.
