This is a surgical video showing an interesting application of bone marrow derived stem cells + surgery(patellar chondroplasty) for a patient who had a lot of anterior knee pain from cartilage damage on her kneecap.
We considered many options and decided on a bone marrow derived stem cell patellar subchondroplasty and intra-articular BMC injection. We debrided the loose chondral margins…..drilled a 0.028 k-wire from lateral to medial into the patella and used it as a guide wire for an 18g spinal needle. After removing the Kwire we injected 3cc of BMC…look closely and you can see the subchondral bone “flush” as we inject!
